五、教学目的:
通过学生喜闻乐见的活鲜的英文材料,来自各大英文报章、杂志、主流电台的时文,涵盖政治、军事、娱乐、文化、教育、艺术等各个方面,以:
1.培养学生的国际视野,中国情怀;
2. 提高学生的阅读能力,使其具有初步阅读原文报刊的能力;
3. 使其具备研究生、托福、雅思、托业等各种国际及国家一流考试阅读材料的阅读能力
4. 扩大学生的词汇量
5. 学会地道的英文表达法
6. 熟悉西方思维逻辑,提高思辨、批评、评论能力。

该课程共持续17周,每周3学时。第18周安排随堂考试,具体安排如下:

Advanced Popular Reading
With freshly taken or excerpted materials covering politics, military,entertainment, etc., from mainstream Western newpspapers,magazines, radios, TVs and websites, the course is aimed to
1. broaden students’ international horizons
2. enble students to read foreign newspapers and magazines with the help of dictionaries
3. make them well-prepared for reading passages from first-class interntaional or national English tests like Postgraduate Entrance Exams, TOFEL, IELTS, etc.
4. expand their vocabulary
5. learn to express in a native way
6. be familiar with western logic, thus developing their ability to think, judge and criticize
The course is expected to last 17 weeks and end with an exam. The plan is as follows:
